Our cell phones are our lives. Students cling to their phones like there is no tomorrow. We wait for some guy to text us, or we wait for our mom’s phone call for the date. I think we should all say a little thank you to our mobile devices that we use 24/7. So, I decided to write mine a letter.

Dear cell phone,

I love you so much that I decided to write you a letter. I just want you to know how much you mean to me. Although you are a dumb phone, not a smart one, I still appreciate you for what you give to me. Without you, I am lost and I don’t know what to do with my hands. I am constantly holding you because it comforts me when you are with me. When I am in a place where I don’t know anyone, you are always there to make me look busy so I don’t have to look alone. You are the best friend anyone could ever ask for.

I love you cell phone for providing me with a way to communicate with my friends through just pushing buttons and hitting send. I also appreciate that anywhere at anytime I can take a picture and save it and then post it to my Twitter or Facebook later. Although the quality is not perfect, it is sufficient enough for me. My friends all have smart phones but you know what? I don’t need cool apps. I don’t need HeyTell or the Internet. You might be slow and different, but I still appreciate you for all you’re worth.

Sometimes I do wish you wouldn’t just turn off out of the blue. At times like that, I feel like you may have left me for good. It worries me. I know you’re getting old and your time is probably limited. I hope you have another couple months left in you though. I don’t know how to live without you. I wish that your memory wouldn’t fill up. I take lots of pictures and I wish I could save them all but then you go and tell me that your memory is full. Old age is hard. Please stick with me until the end of the year. I need you phone. You are my everything.

Love, me.

Alright, so I wish I had a smart phone. (Don’t tell my Samsung Intensity that though.) Being a poor college student has its ups and downs. No, it probably just has its downs. How am I supposed to afford a smart phone? Yesterday I had a conversation with a friend who went off about how the government can track any smart phone and can read your messages and emails. He said he hated a “Big Brother” hanging over us. This is why he refuses to get a smart phone.

After his whole spiel about how the government can watch our every move through smart phones, my only reply was, “I still want one.” He was frustrated to say the least. I think that iPhones and droids are so great not only for the fun aspect but because they are really useful. You can find your way when you are lost. There are also apps for colleges which allow students to log into their school account and access what they need all from their phone.

My phone is sturdy and durable, but it just allows me to text and call-the basics. I’m really hoping for a smart phone for Christmas. Every college student should have one, in my opinion.
