Indeed, fruits and vegetables must make up a large portion of our diet. In fact, the recommended daily serving is around 5-9 per day. Nine servings actually translate to about 2 cups of fruit and 2 1/2 cups of vegetables. This can be a bit of a challenge to most people. Perhaps what you didn’t know is that there are a number of really easy ways to include fruits and vegetables in your diet. Read on and find out.

1. Smoothies!!

Create a fruit smoothie by combining fruits (such as bananas, peaches, strawberries, etc.) and low-fat milk or yogurt. This can be a great alternative for sugary snacks, especially since it is low in calorie and rich in vitamins and minerals.

The best thing about a smoothie is that the wide variety of fruit could only mean acquiring a wide variety of nutrients (such as Vitamins A, B2, B6, C, E, folate, niacin, and potassium) as well.

Smoothies can also be made from fresh, raw vegetables.

2. Keep fruits visible

When you are on a diet and you see someone happily eating something that you have tried to stay away from, chances are you will be tempted to eat. You tell yourself you just have one teeny, tiny bite; only to be so guilt-stricken after you realized you have consumed everything. That happens. Quite a lot, actually. Exactly the same principle applies to keeping fruits visible at your home or at work. Keep a bowl of fruits on the table, on the kitchen counter, on top of or inside the refrigerator. At least, when you are tempted to eat, you know what you’re eating is healthy.

3. Snack on vegetables or dried fruit

Rather than snack on fast food items, keep it healthy. Much on dried fruits or crunchy vegetables like raw carrots, celery, etc. For added taste, vegetables can be dipped in hummus or low-fat yogurt-based dip.
